Innovative Community Service Models
This cutting-edge “interview style” session addresses innovations in long-term care from both the public and private sector perspective. Josefina Carbonell, former Assistant Secretary for Aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and currently the SVP of Long-Term Care and Nutrition at Independent Living Systems (ILS) shares her personal experience as a public servant as well as a leader in the private sector to advance community-based long-term care services for the US elderly. Moderated by NAELA’s CEO, C. Grace Whiting, J.D., this session addresses three essential components of this progression: 1. Challenges within the federal government in improving long-term care for older adults. 2. Innovations in the private sector…where is managed care leading the way (can address Florida’s advancements)? 3. What is the role that Elder Law Attorneys can play to navigate this hybrid world (public and private sector)?
